Sounds of Silence

A European Harmonising Project

"We know what we are, but know not what we may be." - William Shakespeare

What can silence tell us about ourselves? Has the sound frequency of music anything to do with the reality we face? What does it take to become fully harmonized with the citizens of our continents? The new harmonic pianotuning presented by Sounds of Silence, is based on the recently created 12-based 'Krystal' tuning. Experience the amazing sounds brought to you by professional musicians deliberately using two classic Erard grand pianos from around 1870.

Welcome to Sounds of Silence

Erard Piano

Sounds of Silence encourages pianists to work with antique grand pianos such as the famous Erard brand, established by Sebastien Erard in the 18th century by Brevet of Louis XVI. Up until today there is no piano brand that reaches the quality level of Erard pianos.  The unique construction techniques used and extreme level of craftmanship make them so special.

This film is about the world famous Erard piano restorer Frits Janmaat, at work in his atelier in Amsterdam. Erard pianos are straight (parallel) strung and their distinctive, clear sound has influenced the works of some of the world's most famous composers: Chopin, Liszt, Berlioz and Mendelssohn to name but a few.

“Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”  – Bashar.  Read more...
